Keyboard shortcuts on Windows offer a rapid way to navigate and operate the experience and features using multiple key combos. Most of us know how to command tasks on our computer-using mouse, but there are quicker ways of performing the same tasks by means of Windows keyboard shortcuts.

Compared to reaching for the mouse or navigating through a menu bar, a single keyboard shortcut helps you save a few clicks and time too. This might not seem like much at first, but when you add up all those saved moments over a period, you will gain substantially.

Here’s a list of the most powerful, and probably least used keyboard shortcuts that involve the Windows logo key (insert image), commonly seen in almost all keyboards:

Action

Ctrl + Shift + Escape

Directly brings up the task manager instead of you having to select it from Ctrl + Alt + Del

Win + X

This offers quick access to some of the core features of Windows Administrative applications

Win + Ctrl + D

You’ll be taken to the new desktop immediately. Alternatively, you can click “New Desktop” in Task View

Alt + F4

This completely closes the application you’re using currently

Win + Semicolon (;)

This directly opens the emoji picker

Win + Shift + S

To quickly snip and share a screenshot, press the Windows key + Shift + S to bring up a snipping toolbar

Win + V

This takes a screenshot and stores it in the clipboard

Win + I

This shortcut opens Settings application

Win + E

This shortcut takes you directly to file explorer

Ctrl + Shift + N

This creates new folder in File Explorer

Win + Home

This can minimize or maximize all but the active desktop window

Win + Comma (,)

This allows you to temporarily peek at the desktop

Win + F

This launches Feedback Hub application

Win + T

This cycles through application in the Taskbar

Alt + Spacebar

This launches context menu for the active window

Ctrl + Shift + T

This re-opens the last closed tab

Ctrl + Shift + N

This creates new folder on desktop or File Explorer.

Win + PgUp or PgDn

This snaps the active app to top or bottom of screen or maximizes it

Win + R

This launches the run dialog

Ctrl + Alt + Del

The  logout dialog will be summoned on your device
