Meta-owned WhatsApp is undoubtedly one of the leading messaging platforms in the world. Owing to its popularity, the developers seem to be constantly working on adding new features and improving existing ones. Recently, WhatsApp beta introduced a new feature that lets users sort messages by date and hide their online status and now the company is reportedly working on a new feature which will enable users to edit a sent message.
As reported by WaBetaInfo, a Twitter account which keeps track of the changes in WhatsApp, has revealed that the messaging app may soon introduce a feature called ‘Edit Message’. The feature will enable the users to correct the errors when they send a message by mistake or in a hurry. Wabetainfo has shared the screenshot of the edit feature that is currently being developed. The screenshot shows a dedicated edit option when you select a message you have sent. Along with options to copy and forward the messages, the users will also get an edit option. Upon selecting the edit button, you can correct any typo or spelling error in your message. The current setup only allows users to delete the message but you cannot edit it.
Interestingly, WhatsApp was working on the same feature earlier but suddenly decided to drop it without any explanation. Unfortunately, there is no word on when the feature will make it to the stable version of WhatsApp. But whenever it is released, it is highly likely that WhatsApp will add an ‘edited’ label to the message, so the other person knows the message has been edited. Rumour also has it that users might be able to edit messages for a certain time period.
